What to Expect During Zoom Teeth Whitening
Wish you could show off a whiter, brighter smile? Ask our cosmetic dentists in Grandville, MI, if you’re a candidate for Zoom teeth whitening. As the name suggests, Zoom whitening can give you fast results in as little as one appointment. In fact, some patients are able to whiten their teeth by up to eight shades in one visit! This makes the procedure perfect for weddings, graduations, or other special occasions.
To learn if you’re a candidate for Zoom whitening, you’ll need to schedule a visit with one of our cosmetic dentists. In the meantime, here’s what you can expect during your visit to 44 West Dental Professionals.
Protection for Your Lips and Gums
The Zoom whitening procedure takes 45 minutes and is broken up into 15-minute sessions. With each session, we’ll apply more whitening gel to your teeth. For your protection, we’ll cover your lips and gums so they don’t get irritated by the whitening gel.
Whiter Teeth in One Visit
Once your smile is prepped, we’ll apply the gel onto your teeth and activate the hydrogen peroxide with our WhiteSpeed blue LED lamp. This light oxidizes the gel and lifts tooth stains so you’ll be able to smile with confidence as soon as you leave our office.
During each session, we encourage you to relax while you sit in the dentist’s chair. For example, it may be a good idea to bring in your headphones so you can listen to your favorite music while you wait. Once the third session is complete, we’ll apply a special fluoride gel to your teeth to reduce sensitivity.
A Few “Zingers”
Throughout the teeth whitening procedure, you may experience what we call “zingers” Zingers are brief flashes of pain that happen when the nerves in your teeth react to the whitening process. This pain can continue even after you leave our office, which is why we always give our patients pain relievers to take afterwards.
Our team will check in on you throughout the Zoom whitening process. Also, please don’t hesitate to let us know if you’re experiencing any pain or discomfort during your appointment. Different people have different pain tolerances, which is why we typically don’t recommend Zoom whitening for patients with sensitive teeth.
Custom At-Home Whitening Trays
After your appointment, we’ll give you custom teeth whitening trays that you can use from the comfort of your own home. These trays are perfect for touch-ups so you can maintain a whiter, brighter smile.
The results of teeth whitening aren’t permanent, especially if you consume foods and beverages that are known to stain the enamel. For example, drinking coffee, red wine, or tea can discolor your smile over time.
Please be mindful of your diet so you can maintain your beautifully whitened smile for as long as possible. Also, be sure to practice good oral hygiene to avoid plaque and tartar buildup.
