What are My Tooth Replacement Options?
If you’ve recently lost one tooth or several teeth, we recommend that you schedule a consultation with one of our dentists in Grandville, MI. During your appointment, they’ll help you explore your tooth replacement options so you can feel confident and informed about your treatment plan.
In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about the tooth replacement options we offer at 44 West Dental Professionals.
Dental Bridges
Are you missing one tooth, but the rest of your smile is intact? If so, our dentists may recommend the dental bridge procedure. As the name suggests, a dental bridge is a restoration that “bridges” the gap in your smile left by a missing tooth. A bridge contains a prosthetic tooth that’s anchored in place by dental crowns on either prepared natural teeth or implants.
Full and Partial Dentures
If you’re missing one tooth or a few teeth, we may suggest a removable partial denture to restore your smile. For significant tooth loss, a conventional full denture can be used to replace the upper and/or lower arch of teeth. Unlike other tooth replacement options, a denture rests on top of your gums. This means that you’ll need to let your gums rest at night and soak your denture appliance in a glass of water while you sleep.
Single-Tooth Implants
A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth root that’s made out of a titanium alloy. This titanium rod is implanted in the jaw where it fuses to the bone tissue over the course of several months. Once the implant is stable and secure, our dentists will place the abutment and crown over top.
While dentures rest on top of your gums, single-tooth implants are embedded deep in the jawbone. Not only does this provide you with more stability while you chew, but it also helps prevent jawbone deterioration over time.
All-on-4® Implants
An all-on-4 implant is a fixed denture that’s supported by four dental implants. These implants stabilize your denture appliance so it’ll never slip while you eat, smile, talk, and laugh. Many of our patients appreciate that all-on-4 implants can be placed in one appointment to our office. During your first visit, we’ll place the implants and the temporary denture over top. Once the dental implants have fully fused to the jawbone, our dentists will place the permanent fixed denture.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Have you been frustrated with slipping dentures? If so, it’s time to ask our dentists about implant-supported dentures. An implant-supported denture is held in place by four or six dental implants. During your consultation, our dentists will determine how many dental implants will be needed to support your fixed denture appliance.
