Meet Dr. Michael Wierenga

Nominated for Top Dentist in Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids Magazine 2023!

Dr. Wierenga graduated from the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate and dental school. During his time in Ann Arbor, he was involved in clinical research, tutoring other students in subjects such as chemistry and biology, and also volunteered his time weekly at a local dental clinic that provided care to the underserved community.

He received his undergraduate degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2008 and DDS degree four years later in 2012. Dr. Wierenga graduated in the top 2% of his dental school class and was an active member of the Xi Psi Phi Dental Society and Christian Medical and Dental Association.

Currently, Dr. Wierenga is an active member in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and West Michigan District Dental Society. He is passionate about continued learning and has sought extensive continuing education, including focused study and training in Invisalign®, soft tissue laser treatment, full-mouth reconstruction, complex implant restorations, and cosmetic dentistry.

His talents in areas of technology and digital dentistry have improved our ability to educate our patients and improve the quality of their care. Dr. Wierenga has completed the entire curriculum at the L.D. Pankey Institute, a world-renowned academic center for advancing dental education, clinical skills, and patient care. He is living the Pankey philosophy of personal and professional fulfillment.

Dr. Wierenga grew up in West Michigan—he is a 2004 graduate of South Christian High School, where he played football and basketball and was a member of the 2002 state championship football team. Dr. Wierenga currently resides in Byron Center with his wife Rachel and four daughters: Hattie, Winnie, Poppy, and Lucy. As a family they enjoy biking, spending time outdoors, and exploring the many museums and activities Michigan has to offer. He is actively involved at Ada Bible Church, where he serves as a leader and mentor for young children as well as on the medical team. Dr. Wierenga is an avid sports fan, and loves rooting for his beloved Wolverines, especially during football and basketball seasons!

“I was first drawn to dentistry by the unique blend of science and art that this profession has to offer. I am still fascinated by the level of detail needed to deliver the highest level of dental care – both in the everyday treatment as well as for patients with more advanced needs. I love learning and take many hours of continuing education every year, much above the state requirements for dentistry! Some of my favorite procedures include anterior esthetic composite bonding and veneers because of the detail and planning required for a successful result. Ultimately though, my favorite part of being a dentist is not in the treatment I provide, but rather the relationships with my patients that develop as a result! I love learning more about my patients, and I believe this deeper personal connection leads to the best possible outcomes for my patients.”
