In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about Invisalign treatment.
What are Invisalign Aligners?
Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear aligners to gradually move your teeth into their final positions. These aligners exert constant but gentle pressure on your teeth and are a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. While clear aligners are removable, they must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day so you don’t fall behind on your treatment plan.
Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
You may be a candidate for Invisalign treatment if you have crooked and/or crowded teeth. In general, our dentists only recommend Invisalign clear aligners for teens and adults. This is because children often lack the self-discipline to consistently wear their aligners 20 to 22 hours per day. Older patients, however, tend to feel more motivated to complete orthodontic treatment.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign Treatment?
Invisalign aligners are clear and discreet. This means that most people won’t even realize that you’re wearing orthodontic aligners unless you tell them or they’re standing close. Clear aligners are perfect for people who may feel self-conscious about having metal wires and brackets on their teeth.
Another benefit of clear aligners is that they’re removable, which allows you to enjoy an unrestricted diet. In comparison, people with traditional metal braces have to avoid foods that are sticky and/or difficult to chew. Otherwise, they risk damaging their dental braces.
Keep in mind that you’ll need to brush your teeth after you eat to avoid staining your Invisalign clear aligners.

How Do I Clean Invisalign Aligners?
Clean your Invisalign aligners twice a day. To do this, you’ll need to first rinse your aligners under lukewarm water, then brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste. Never clean your aligners in boiling water or attempt to clean them in the dishwasher. This will only damage your aligners, warping them out of shape.
When you’re not wearing your clear aligners, be sure to place them in their special protective case. This will help you avoid throwing them away by accident or having them crushed or bent out of shape.
Invisalign also sells cleaning products for their aligners. For recommendations, be sure to ask our Invisalign dentists during your next appointment.
