Dental Implants FAQ
Have questions about dental implants? You’ve come to the right place! Our dental implant dentists in Grandville, MI, would be more than happy to help you explore your tooth replacement options. Whether you need to replace one tooth or several teeth, you can count on our expertise to help you achieve the smile of your dreams.
Here’s what you need to know about the dental implant procedure.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth root that’s made out of a titanium alloy. This implant is embedded in the jaw where it will later support an abutment and crown. Together, the implant, abutment, and crown will give you the full function and appearance of a natural tooth.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
One of the main advantages of dental implants is that they look and feel like natural teeth. This means that you’ll be able to continue eating your favorite foods without the fear of your prosthetic teeth slipping in public. Instead, you’ll be able to eat, smile, talk, and laugh with confidence.
Another benefit of dental implants is that they help prevent bone loss in the jaw. Once you lose a tooth, your body will start to absorb the minerals in your jaw to use elsewhere. The good news is that a dental implant exerts pressure on the jaw, which tells the body that the bone tissue around that socket is still in use.
If left untreated, jawbone deterioration can lead to a condition called facial collapse. Facial collapse can give you a sunken appearance and make it difficult or uncomfortable to continue wearing dentures. For the above reasons, many of our patients prefer dental implants over dentures for replacing missing teeth.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
You may be a candidate for dental implants if you have sufficient bone density in your jaw. That way, there’s enough bone tissue to support the titanium post. If you don’t have sufficient jawbone density, our dentists may recommend a bone graft to augment the jawbone tissue you already have.
It’s preferred that candidates not smoke or otherwise use tobacco products. This is because smoking inhibits the body’s natural ability to heal itself after dental implant surgery.
Do You Offer Different Types of Dental Implants?
Yes! Our dentists are proud to offer several different types of dental implants to best fit your oral health needs. Whether you need to replace one tooth or an entire arch of teeth, we’ll evaluate your smile and develop a custom treatment plan. Our dentists offer single-tooth implants, implant-supported dentures, and all-on-4® implants.
